I went to church today and the visiting preacher made me think about something i don't really dwell on. JEALOUSY. It was funny to see jealousy in the bible.
See there was this priest called Asaph who wrote the 73rd psalm and the guy had a problem with jealousy and he blogged about it (in the Bible of all places)!!
You could read the whole psalm here but these are just the verses that i focused on.
1-5 God is truly good to Israel, especially to everyone with a pure heart. But I almost stumbled and fell, because it made me jealous to see proud and evil people and to watch them prosper. They never have to suffer, they stay healthy, and they don't have troubles like everyone else.
13-14 What good did it do me to keep my thoughts pure and refuse to do wrong? I am sick all day, and I am punished each morning.
17 Then I went to your temple, and there I understood.
See this priest had a problem with seeing people who didn't believe in God at all prospering while he suffered. He felt cheated. Then he went to the temple and a wave of understanding hit him. It is not about how blessed we are on earth but what happens after we leave this place.
Not everyone believes in God or the hereafter but Nicole Nordemen (above) put it brilliantly in her song 'What if'?
She said
What if you're right?
And he was just another nice guy
What if you're right?
What if it's true?
They say the cross will only make a fool of you
And what if it's true?
What if he takes his place in history
With all the prophets and the kings
Who taught us love and came in peace
But then the story ends
What then?
But what if you're wrong?
What if there's more?
What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?..........
Well basically she was trying to say some people don't believe in God and they may be right BUT what if they are wrong and they find out too late.
What if this 'rapture of the saints' is really true.
What if you have basically lived your life in a true way and kept yourself pure like Asaph and something small made you miss it. A little lie, a short session of masturbation, cheating, bullying,......................................the list doesn't end.
I think the best way to live is to do so like that minute will be your last. Live life to the full but be constantly aware of what goes on after life is over. Trivial stuff like jealousy wont be such a problem then.
Wow cant believe i finished that. How was that for my first ever blog sermon. lol!!
